Worker engagement
The ‘Creating a Healthy Workforce to Create a Safe Environment Project’ was developed by Cylch and funded by the Workers Safety Advisor Challenge Fund in order to improve awareness, knowledge and understanding of H&S issues, increase the level of worker involvement in health and safety, reduce accidents and share best practice in the Welsh Community Recycling Sector. A Workers Safety Advisor (WSA) was employed between April 2006 and March 2007 to provide in depth support to 20 Member organisations. Overall the project proved very successful.

A Health and Safety study of Kerbside Recycling schemes using boxes and bags
During 2005-2006
Cylch collaborated with the Centre of Health and Environment Research Expertise (CHERE) on a joint project to explore the issues surrounding occupational health within the recycling sector. The study focused on the collection of recyclables using boxes and bags; with organisations operating their collection rounds using either a co-mingled or source separated process. The study failed to identify any significant risks within kerbside recycling operations using boxes and bags that could not be effectively managed and controlled.
