Cleanstream®
The Cleanstream® fund (now closed) is managed by Cylch, the Wales Council for Voluntary Action, Environment Agency Wales and the Welsh Local Government Association. It is part of the New Opportunities Fund (Big Lottery Fund) Transforming Waste Programme. The Cleanstream® fund (now closed) resulted in the allocation of over £2.65 million to reuse and recycling projects in Wales.
The fund was provided for community-based recycling projects and its aim was to develop long-term, local recycling activities that contribute to regional sustainability. The grants are split into three broad bands for small, medium-scale and major partnership proposals.
At present Cleanstream® funds are closed and no further applications are being considered. To date, £2.76 million has been allocated to 21 projects across Wales with a Total Project Value of £12.37 million. The funding will create 97 full time and 30 part time jobs along with 241 voluntary posts. The Cleanstream® fund (now closed) will divert over 76,000 tonnes of material from landfill by the end of the project period.
Successful projects include Newport Wastesavers’ Cleanstream® Resource Centre, a purpose built reprocessing facility for kerbside materials, educational activities and workshops for wood and bulky goods.
Other successful Cleanstream® projects include:
Homemakers Community Recycling
Monmouthshire Community Recycling
Torfaen Community Recycling
