Hard plastics that can’t be reused such as plastic garden furniture, plastic plant pots, old children’s toys, UPVC window frames, some office furniture like trays or rulers, kerbside boxes that are cracked and unusable – to name but a few examples, can now be diverted from landfill and recycled instead.
Cabinet Member for visible and building services at the Vale council, Councillor Geoffrey Cox, announced the news saying: "I am pleased to tell Vale residents that they can now recycle even more items - this time either at the household waste recycling centre at the Atlantic Trading Estate, Barry or our other site at Llandow. This will reduce even further the amount of waste that we send to landfill."
Both household waste recycling sites are open 10am to 4pm daily (including weekends) and once British Summer Time starts, on 25 March, opening times will be extended.
Council contractors Biffa trialled the hard plastic recycling at the Atlantic Trading Estate; they reported it had been so well received by residents who regularly visited the site that they were happy to introduce the same recycling facility at Llandow.
