Cadwyn tenants benefit from Cleanstream eco-friendly flooring (31.01.12)

Cadwyn Housing Association has recently had ten of its temporary accommodation homes fitted with re-used carpet tiles that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

The homes are provided on a temporary basis for people who have been made homeless and are now awaiting their permanent home. The tenants living in these homes would not wish to spend money on flooring as they are not going to be living in the homes for long.

Cylch member Cleanstream Carpets, a unique social enterprise in South Wales that recycles and supplies re-used/reclaimed carpet tiles were able to help. Chris O’Meara, Cadwyn’s Chief Executive commented:

“We are really pleased to have benefitted from this excellent service from Cleanstream Carpets. The carpet tiles are excellent quality, affordable and by using them we are doing our bit for the environment.”

Cleanstream Carpets CIC operates from a warehouse on the Rheola Industrial Estate in Porth, Rhondda. It stocks more than 5,000 square meters of good quality, reused and end of line carpet tiles. The project provides employment and training opportunities for long-term unemployed people as well as providing an affordable flooring option.

Ellen Petts, Managing Director of Cleanstream Carpets added: “We’re really proud of what we do. Carpet tiles are made to last for at least 25 years and there’s no good reason why they shouldn’t be used that long.

“However, most carpet tiles are on the floor for no more than seven years.  When companies change their corporate colours or move offices, they don’t think about the wastage involved with perfectly reusable items such as flooring – that’s where we come in.”
