Textiles Recycling

The Textile Recycling Association calculates that 85% of all textiles entering the waste stream are reusable or recyclable. Currently, less than 16% of all textile waste is diverted from entering the waste stream.

Cylch are currently operating a pilot scheme in North Wales which will see Cylch members collecting and re-using textiles themselves, as well as selling excess textiles to textiles merchant IG Cohen.

The aim is to reduce the amount of textiles going to landfill, and to ensure that communities benefit from textiles recycling. The sale of re-used textiles will create employment opportunities locally as well as an extra income stream for members.

Cylch's Field Officer Calvin Davies has produced a report on textiles recycling entitled ‘Textiles: The New Green Waste?” which outlines research and recommendations for textiles recycling in Wales. Click Here to download the report.
