Social Accounting

What is Social Accounting?

Social accounting is a way of measuring the complete impact of an organisation, enabling it to measure its value in social, economic and environmental terms. This is referred to as the ‘Triple bottom line’ approach.

Social audit panels independently verify the information presented in social accounts in much the same way that financial auditing provides an independent assessment of financial accounts.

Why produce Social Accounts?

Social accounting is recognised in the Welsh Assembly Government’s Social Enterprise Strategy as a means of measuring social, economic and environmental impacts.

It is becoming increasingly important for recycling organisations tendering for contracts to be able to show the social benefits of their activities. And with environmental concerns high on the agenda, it is becoming essential for organisations of any kind to be able to prove that they're doing all they can to reduce their environmental impact.
