Innovation Award

This award is open to any organisation or company active in recycling in Wales.
Innovation is defined as the successful application of a new idea. The Innovation Award will reward those who have developed an innovative recycling project, product, activity or service or who have excelled in one of the following areas in the last 12 months:

  • Tackling a common problem in a new or exceptional way
  • Having a unique selling point
  • Diverting a new material from landfill
  • Delivering a unique service
  • Making an innovative new product
  • Marketing products or services in a creative and interesting way

This award carries a cash prize of £2000, plus a unique recycled glass award created by Cylch Members Ten Green Bottles.

Entries should be based on work undertaken in the last 12 months.

Entrants will need to provide a brief description of the nominated project, product, service or activity.

  • What is it?
  • How does it work?
  • What need does it fulfill?

Judging Criteria
The Innovation Award will be judged on the following criteria. A maximum of ten points will be awarded for each.

Degree of innovation
How ‘new’ is this idea/ project?

Practicability
How easily can this idea be put into practice?
Could it be scaled up or replicated elsewhere?

Effects:
Organisations must describe measurable impacts under the following headings.
Any data referred to may be checked by Cylch during the judging process.

Environmental
For example:

  • Reduction in waste arisings,
  • Tonnage diversion,
  • Increase in participation rate,
  • Carbon footprint reduction
  • Any other positive effects

Social
For example:

  • Community engagement and involvement
  • Employment or training
  • Education
  • Regeneration
  • Alleviation of poverty

Economic
For example:

  • Efficiency savings
  • Savings locally 
  • Financial sustainability
